Christone "Kingfish" Ingram put on quite a performance in front of a sold-out crowd at the Salvage Station in Asheville, North Carolina on Wednesday, April 3rd. Prior to the show,
I heard some folks in the crowd referencing the likes of BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughan when describing Kingfish's talent, but I have to disagree with this, as he most definitely has his own style and sound / tone (using only three pedals, by the way). I would add that Kingfish and his band had a far-more funkier edge to their brand of the blues than I had anticipated.
Born in 1999, Kingfish has a confident stage presence well beyond his young 25 years. And, he has the powerful vocals to match. In other words, this night wasn't all about raw guitar talent. He brought the entire package, along with his band, and I have little doubt that we'll be hearing a lot more about Kingfish in the coming years -- and without the comparisons to BB and SRV.
